Water For Life
STATS
- The United Nations reports that unclean water results in almost 2 million children's deaths each year.
- That's more than 5,000 children everyday!
- Unclean water leads to death by cholera, relentless diarrhea, fever, sickness, and other waterborne disease for thousands of others.
Bad water is the "silent killer" in the world today. Although it doesn't get the media coverage of wars and natural disasters, it is responsible for more deaths each year than global conflict.
It's a race for life for young children like Sasha, who lives in the slums outside Mumbai, India. Her simple home is located in what some call "slums of despair" - no running water, no clean water and no sanitation. The only things plentiful in her area are the sickness and diarrhea caused by what the people drink each day. In this part of the world alone, diarrhea causes up to 1,600 deaths each day!
Sadly, clean water is often unattainable to the poor because of the cost and equipment necessary to dig deep enough to reach it.
One of the greatest blessings the poor in this world can receive is good water, which our Friends for Life help make available. This year we will be able to drill the wells and equip them with steel casing for an average of $4800 USD each. The wells provide water for 1000 villagers, who can then draw clean water for 20-25 years and even longer!
That means it costs just $4.80 to help provide clean water for a child for the rest of his or her life.
Sign up today to eradicate thirst and waterborne disease around the world.
